Independence, MO Audio books are very popular today, and all manor of them cover the worlds of fiction and advice, except in one category. Until today there has never been an audio book on Windows NT, the popular advanced computer operating system from Microsoft. Books on the subject line the shelves of most bookstores, and some of the most popular of these are test guides for passing the six Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) tests.
Graeme Gibson, who has previously written How to Build a Clone Computer & The Computer Repair Handbook, has for the last two years lead hundreds of seminars on Windows NT, and has distilled the best parts of his two day NT presentation, down to six hours narration on four cassette tapes. The tapes also include stories of his process of gaining certification, and heads-up information on sample test questions.
According to Gail Simmons, publicist for Computer Training Corporation, Gibson's publisher "These tapes might never have come about, except that Gibson tried for a long time to find some, searching the Internet and popular sites like Amazon.com and the Library of Congress. He wanted them to study on the many long automobile trips he took to reach the seminars he has taught in over 30 states. Finally he made his own crude tapes, that so many people wanted to borrow, that we became convinced that there was a market for this product."
Gibson's new audio book, differs from many of the breed, in that it is not a reading of a written work, but an entirely new production designed for NT users to gain skills while driving to and from their jobs. According to Gibson "I wanted to produce tapes that would work without the user being in front of a computer. Most of the books assume a computer to practice on and many of them would not work if read aloud. My tapes use stories to illustrate the point, and the analogies are the same ones I have field proven for teaching the subject, in seminars, without individual computers. I know they work"
Because of the specialized subject matter, the tapes will be primarily marketed via a website, www.techtape.net, where additional information, user quotes and a detailed subject list can be found. According to Simmons "They can also be ordered from bookstores. Our distributor is Baker & Taylor Books, one of the best known national distributors. The books ISBN is 0-916161-27-7 and the Library of Congress number is 99-91042.
Gibson is well known in the Kansas City area as the former Host of the syndicated TV show Computers Today, and as a contributing columnist for ComputerUser Magazine and The Small Business Monthly. His training career has spanned NASA, FlightSaftey, and most recently Skillpath Seminars. His earlier work, and books, have been covered in the Wall Street Journal, The Kansas City Business Journal, The Examiner, and The Kansas City Star.
